Day 10 – time for a Ferg….

Today we left Te Anau with a short detour on the way to look at another Lord of the Rings film location at Rainbow Reach. The other reason for visiting Rainbow Reach is they have Kiwi’s, but they are very illusive so we were going to be very lucky to see one!

But we did see the sign.

On the way, I go the biggest Gandalf staff (stick to most people) I could find to please my son Richard. No I’m not bringing it back for you Richard!

The girls thought I was a bit mad but it didn’t take long before they both had one…

The we found Boulder Reach View point and took a few pics

and then left for Queenstown, stopping off on the way at the Athol Cafe for great tea and cakes.

then we were back on the road , only stopping to get some photos of the stunning views of lake Wakatipu..

We eventually arrive at our air B&B after a slight detour to the wrong house (note to self: always check that google hasn’t filled in the address for you before you hit go). If the first house we went to have CCTV we may get accused of attempting to break in to a house, Whoops! We left and found the right address which is fabulous!

Having unloaded we head into Queenstown for what everyone says is a must do, which is have a Ferg-Berger. Well, we queued for the obligatory 20 minutes to place our order and then waited another 20 minutes to get it. Walked to the harbour front and sat on a bench to eat it…

Now as I’ve said above, everyone raves about these and says it’s a must. Our opinion was, it’s a good burger, it’s good value for money, is it the best burger I/we’ve ever had, no. Would you queue like that to get another one, no. It’s a case of been there done that, wouldn’t bother again. Personal opinion, which will probably be controversial to some or many given the queues. Then it was off to Pog Mahones for a quick beer before heading back to base.

One the way along the lake back to the car, the TSS Earnslaw was coming back in to port and looked brilliant against clouds.

Tomorrow we are in Queenstown for more adventure, just hope the girl are feeling a bit better as both are a bit under the weather with a cold.
