Day 60 – In the Blue (ridge) Mountains of Australia

Having had 2 late mornings, today, we didn’t have that luxury. We were being picked up outside the Sheraton Hotel, a 15 minute walk from our hotel, at 7.30am! It’s a big trip day, starting at Sydney Zoo, lunch in Leuro, and then to Scenic World to see the Blue Mountains, finishing with a ferry ride from Olympic park to Circular Quay. A full day of activity!

We are on our way just after 7am. Not many about.
After the Banksy exhibition yesterday, Julie thought I had been a bit too inspired and been out with a spray can. I had not!
Our coach for the day – Sunshine…

We are at the Zoo by 9am and the first order of the day is feeding the wallabies..

Previous experience of feeding alpacas came in useful.
The Koala’s were still asleep..
But the Tasmanian devil was up and about.

No time for us to hang about, it was a long journey out to Leuro, so we were back on the coach and on our way.

Leuro mis a small town, a bit similar to Arrowtown in South New Zealand. A main street with lots of small shops and cafe’s. After a lovely lunch we were back on the road for the 3 sisters viewing point. This is only a few minutes from Scenic World and you can see it across the valley.

Now we have had some mixed reviews from people about the Blue Mountains. Some telling us they are a must and amazing. Others saying it’s OK but nothing to write home about. Well for us, it was the first. The scale is breath taking. I think it’s one of those things. When you think of mountains, you think of being at the bottom and looking up at snowy peaks that you might climb. Well, it’s not that kind of mountain. For starters you are already on top. Your view is looking down on to a vast rainforest. And just for the record, it’s not raining! Serious bonus for us. Here’s some photos that just don’t do justice to the scale of it.

That’s a lot of people in that skyway – something Julie and I didn’t fancy.
But we had a nice walk

2 hours later and we are on the coach heading for the Olympic Park wharf…

with these 2 trouble makers 😀

…and a ferry back to Sydney Circular Quay which again, didn’t disappoint with the views…

Sydney Opera House bathed in sunshine.
And we finished the day with dinner on the quayside, watching the cruise liner depart the harbour. Hope they have reversing sensors on that thing, it was a bit close turning around.

And with that, I’m up to date… for now.
