Day 57 – Another Suitcase in another airport..

Our last day in Cairns and our last day with this view..

Dull but not raining – that’s a bonus.

We are out of our air B&B by 10am but the plane doesn’t leave until 3pm. We have a few hours to kill. Fortunately, the apartment block is also part hotel and they are obviously not too fussy when you ask if you can store the suitcases for a few hours. Which means we can have a few more hours in Cairns without hauling the luggage around.

A stroll down the front and a last few photos…

and it’s time for tea….

with muffins. They didn’t have any fruit but I did think Apple and cinnamon would count.

And then, just when you thought you might get away with it…

It’s absolutely torrential…. Time to get the plane to Sydney for some dry weather.
I have to say, we thought Cairns was interesting and there were some great highlights but we won’t miss the humidity and the rain. Thanks Cairns you were good.

We had a really interesting chat with our taxi driver Keith on the way to the airport. He’s lived in Cairns for the past 46 years and seen it grow from small, quite fishing port the the Seaside, sun-seeking mecca is it now. In his mind, all for the worse, including the highest crime and violence stats on the west coast – according to Keith. That surprised us.

We arrive in Sydney, collect our cases, still soaking wet from the deluge of rain on the way to be loaded on to the plane. Fortunately It’s not raining in Sydney. Second time is Sydney airport but first time outside of it!

Taxi to the hotel 15 minutes down the road. Into hotel and Relax. Well, not quite. I’ve only had a banana and a muffin all day. We need food. The restaurant in the hotel isn’t open, however, the place opposite is. We go. Easy choice, fish and chips twice and 2 beers. Now so far, especially in New Zealand, everywhere have had Fish and chips is usually 2 sizable fish and loads of chips. well…

I think these could be described as fish fingers. It didn’t matter, it was food.
We were also entertained by these two…
Sang in perfect English but all the in between chat was in Chinese. The guitarist nearest was good thou.

Tomorrow we explore Sydney.
