Day 52 – Up, Up and away…

Our last morning in Marvellous Melbourne before we fly of to the tropical Cairns for a few days of Sun (we hope), sea and sand and just a little look and the Great Barrier Reef. I’m getting ahead again…

Its a lovely morning in Melbourne and after breakfast (free at the holiday inn and it’s good), we are on the move again. Julie wants to visit St Pauls Cathedral, not quite on the London scale but it’s a big church.

The bridge with a sunny Melbourne skyline. Julie hiding her poorly knee.
St Pauls Cathedral, Melbourne, just for clarification.
Inside St Pauls
The mighty fine organ, which sadly, I didn’t get to hear.

We then had another wander around a bit more of Melbourne…

Flinders Station
Another fine example of the older architecture in the city – The Manchester Unity Building.
And in a music shop, that I had no idea was there, a Hofner Bass guitar, as played by Paul McCartney (but not that one). There were also a few nice Gibson’s but Julie said our baggage allowance wouldn’t allow me to buy.

Time for a quick ice cream down by the river and it was time to get on the road to the airport and our flight to Cairns. We did have time for a beer at the airport as the flight was delayed, only by 40 minutes.

It was dark by the time we arrived in Cairns, 7pm. The taxi driver informed us that it’s dark by 6pm. Must make the most of daylight hours.
