Day 51 – Sky High..

Today we have a full day to explore Melbourne. We only arrived yesterday but it’s got a really nice ‘vibe’. We like it.

We like even more that it has a free tram system that rides around all the inner city. It was suggested, by the very helpful hotel receptionist, that we hop on the No 35 tram that does the circular route to get an idea of what we want to see and jump off at any stage. So we cross the bridge and head for the tram.

A bit of a grey start to the day but that’s OK with us.
Sky Deck in the background, but we’ll come to that later.
Our first tram, and it’s free! You wouldn’t get that in Birmingham.

As with all the city’s we have visited, there is a real mix of old and new buildings.

Julie outside Parliament House…
And we’re back on a tram.

Having explored for a while and seen some, well, quite amazing things…

Yes, that’s a tram in the ground in front of the building..

We dropped in for tea and cake at the ACMI (Australia Centre for Moving Image). Now in the interest of honestly, they didn’t have cake, but I won’t hold that against them. The exhibitions/galleries, all relating to film or TV, were free to visit, and there was some good stuff. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the city.

and another…
But the same car.
For our younger reader. All about the Lego Movie – Everything is Awesome!

With Julie’s knee still aching, we headed back for the hotel via the place we had had such a good night at. This time suitably attired..

Melbourne City – Meet WBA!

Having had a rest, we popped out for dinner and it turning in to a pleasant, warn evening by the river.

Which led us to the evening finale of a trip up to the Sky Deck. 88 floors above Melbourne with an uninterrupted 360 degree view of the city.

A great way to finish the day exploring Melbourne. As I said at the start of today, we like Melbourne. After today, we like it a whole lot more.
