Day 42 – Two of us

Greetings from Tazmania! Sorry it’s been a while but internet here is not the best, especially when you are in a camper van relying on a SIM is the middle of nowhere. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Day 42 and we are back in a very damp, grey and dull Auckland (no change there then!). We head out from our hotel for an explore but it’s not the best when it’s raining. At the first corner of the road the hotel is on we can see the sky tower. It’s also wet. Not doing a lot for our spirits as we miss the gang. Hey ho – in to Westfield and then Auckland Harbour front.

Sky Tower peeping over the top

In to Westfield on the bus and just for a change, we decide to buy tickets. What happened in Waiheke stays in Waiheke.

Legal bus travel.

An hour later and the worst tea and cake we have had on this adventure, we are on the bus back to the harbour front.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, there’s not one, but 2 cruise ships in town. Pink stickers everywhere and in every shop, the obligatory question – “are you on the cruise ship?”. Can’t repeat my answer on the internet.

At this point we give up and head for the pub on the front.

Expensive but good beer!

Back to the hotel for an early night. Tomorrow we are being picked up at 5.30am by taxi for the flight to Tazmania.

We did have a nice dinner overlooking the rose garden in the park. Good fish and chips. But I will leave you with a couple of photos of nice old buildings in Auckland.

For anyone planning to go to New Zealand, for us, the South Island wins hands down. Spectacular scenery, lots to do and see. The North Island has it’s good bits – Hobbiton, 90 Mile beach, Rarawa beach spring to mind but so much to see in the south island and great cafe’s everywhere! Personal opinion, don’t shoot me, I’m only the drummer/bass player.

Goodbye New Zealand you were fab. We loved you and Julie said she would come back. That’s praise!
