Day 39 – Going Underground..

We leave our top notch place in Papamoa and hit the road for Rotorua. We have tickets. We can’t be late. This is a highlight of our trip. Even Lynn, who really knows nothing about the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings, is quite excited by it.

We arrive in town. Ahead of schedule and that can only mean one thing – Tea and cake. But before then, we pop in to the tourist information centre for a looksee..

Not your average tourist information centre..

It’s time, we are on our way the the Hobbiton Movie set..

It’s well sign posted and I look photos of a lot of these signs so I will bore you no more.
And we are here.
This is the coach we got on…
and this was the first Hobbit house we saw.

Just for info, the Hobbiton movie set now has 44 hobbit homes. You can only go inside one but you can stand in the doorways of others..

Stu at work – totting up how much Diane has spent on new granddaughter Martha so far this holiday.
With a “hey nonny nonny” – the girls enjoying a dance around the maypole

Enough Hobbit homes – time for ale at the green dragon to finish the visit.

Ale in the Green Dragon.
The green dragon (from the back – the front is covered in scaffolding as its being re-thatched).

Totally worth it. Brilliant day, brilliant place. I took about 500 photos so more may appear in the future, but not until I finish this adventure.

Final word. My lovely Niece, Supah-Sarah, visited Hobbiton on her travels to New Zealand in the early 2000’s. This is when she went..

and now..

Just a bit different!
