People who know me well know I’m not too good when it comes to any Kind of water travel. Be it sailing boats, ferry’s, I’m just not good on water. So if you have been reading my blog you will be aware that, on this trip, I’ve already pushed my luck with 2 ferry crossings, a lake trip and an evening sailing excursion. So today the ‘gang’ decide it’s a trip out to see the Hole in the Rock, which is about an hour and a half on a not very sizable boat across the sea.
So we set off for Paihia, where the boat sails from. Stu is already there and excited about the trip.
And we are sailing…
Diane has bought a new hat for the occasion..James says the captain is going to let him steer the boat later… We are worried. – Note the Japanese chap behind looking a bit green.Nice and calm.. for now. But is soon gets breezy and a bit choppy..Not that Zoe and Kate are bothered by that!
We were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins
and we are sailing again..
And we arrive at the Hole in the rock.
The Hole is on the rightbetter view.and we go through it… I don’t think James was driving the boat.We then get a nice view of the Cape Reinga Lighthouse which we had visited the day before. On the way back, we get to stop off at an Island for a short time and Lynn and I agree that we are going to get in the queue early for the boat back and beat the Japanese chaps (who slept all the way to the hole in the rock) to the front seats on the boat. The plan didn’t quite work as when we went to queue (with Julie and Kate) there was already a sizable queue. The rest of our party were a substantial length of the queue behind us and this was, allegedly, the last boat back. I joked about how funny it would be if they didn’t get on… well…Yes, that is Stuart and Diane waving us goodbye as said the boat was full. Whoops! There was 2 good things to come out of this. 1. there was another boat to pick up the remaining passengers, the boat we arrived on. 2. The boat we had got on was the fast boat straight back to port, 25 minutes with the bonus of, we had the front of the boat pretty much to ourselves!Boating Babes – Step on it Captain. The extra bonus was, we were able to have ice creams while we were waiting for for the rest of the gang, who were on the slow boat.
On the way back we called in at Haruru Falls
This day was finished off with a great BBQ at the Neasy Family residence with, of course, Helen looking Fabulous!
