Day 31 – And Relax(ish)

Having arrived at Waipapa, and joined by Diane, Stuart and Kate, we also have the Neasey family staying less that half an hour away from us so it is a chance to catch up with them. So after a leisurely morning, with breakfast on the patio, we head for Paihia.

Note all that health fruit I’m being force fed.
Me and Stu

Nice lunch and a few drinks later…

Lovely Zoe
The fabulous Helen still looking, well, fabulous.
Lynn, decides to snooze in the sun. Nothing to do with too much drink.
but can get a bit feisty if disturbed, as Stu found out.

Anyway, after lunch, an evening meal had been booked for us all in Russel, a quiet harbour on the other side of the bay where the Waitangi treaty was signed between the British and the Mauri people in 1840.

But on the way, we called off for an ice cream
To get to Russel, we took the Ferry, which took 15 minutes off our journey time.
Tony, nominated driver, driving the party bus, led by the fabulous Helen.
The Duke of Marlborough – great place to eat.
Who’s looking Fabulous…
Great sunset.

The last ferry was supposed to leave at 10.30pm. We arrived at 10.15pm to find the ferry terminus all locked up. Hmm… Website needs updating. But that’s OK, it’s only an extra 20 minutes drive, says Michael….

which turned in to an hour of off-road rallying..
On awful gravel roads…
with livestock hazards!

We won’t be doing that again. Tomorrow we head for the very top of the north island.
