Day 5 – Water Water everywhere…

Today we headed for Mount Cook and a walk along the Hooker Valley trail. On the way we stopped at Lake Pukaki

On the way we get our first look at Mount Cook

On arrival at the Hooker Valley Car park it was, errr, raining, indeed lashing it down! So having checked the good old BBC weather app, we headed for the the Sir Edmund Hilary Cafe. Which also has nice views…

Weather improvement meant time to walk! Even thou Lynn was quite poorly and was taking ‘Harker Herbals – Deep Lung Support’ (as recommended by the pharmacist) she soldiered on to cross some amazing river bridges and enjoy the views. And just for fun, it was gale-force winds the whole way.

And it was worth the hike for the views at the Hooker Valley Lake.

We made it, there and back. If you find yourself in New Zealand it’s a must-do walk.

Finally, we were supposed to do the ‘Dark Skies’ experience at the St John’s observatory summit at 1.15am this morning. However, due to heavy rain it was cancelled at 12.30am. We have rescheduled for tomorrow, as we are here 2 nights, so fingers crossed for clear skies tonight at 2.00am!
